Work out your date
When can you apply?
Enter when your qualifying residency started and how long your route requires. This works out your earliest application date and how much preparation time that leaves you.
This is arithmetic, not advice
We add months to a date. Whether you actually qualify depends on your visa route, time spent outside the country, your record and more. Nothing here is immigration advice and we are not affiliated with any government.
Common questions
- Does this tell me whether I qualify for British citizenship?
- No. It does date arithmetic on the residency period you enter. Nothing more. Eligibility depends on your visa route, absences, criminal record and other factors this cannot see. Check the official guidance or a qualified adviser.
- When should I book the Life in the UK Test?
- Most people book once they are within a few months of applying. The test result does not expire in most routes, so passing early is safe. And it removes one thing from the application.
- How long does it take to prepare?
- Two to four weeks of daily practice is typical for someone comfortable reading the guide. If you sit a mock now, your score will tell you more than any average.
